Salt & Co. Ltd. is a Northumbrian business specialising in 925 sterling silver jewellery inspired by the coast Founded by designer and jeweller, Martha Gothorp.
Martha's love for Northumberland and the coast is prominent in her designs, you will often find her walking her dog, Mally, along the coast with pockets full of shells to inspire her next creations. Martha works from her home studio on the North East Coast and the workshop to the rear of the gallery/shop space to create sterling silver pieces made to love and last.
Salt & Co. has grown from strength to strength over the years, having launched online in 2016 to opening our first shop in February 2022 on the harbour front in Amble. The shop was a dream come true for Martha, with the added bonus of sea views across Amble Little Shore Beach and the Harbour, you can even see Warkworth Castle behind the passing boats! We recommend a walk along the pier and beach whilst you visit and if you're hungry
why not try the fish shack just next door for incredible food!
WHAT TO EXPECT IN STORE
Chances are you'll meet the maker! Martha is in the shop most days, often working away making in the workshop behind the shop, but sometimes you'll find her enjoying the view and making sure the shop is ready for your visit with the help of the rest of the team.

Martha, her Mum, Ceitlan, Emma and Jorja all look forward to welcoming you to the shop on Tuesdays-Sundays!
We don't believe in pushy sales tactics, our friendly team are here to help and we welcome all to come in and take a look around. The shop has full wheelchair access and whilst its not the biggest space, we welcome everyone - even your dogs!
Whilst we aim to have a variety of 'affordable' jewellery, we do understand some of our pieces are an investment. We encourage you to try on and take your time and there is never any pressure in store. Almost everything you see in the shop can be found on our website should you wish to go home and think about it.

OUR PACKAGING
Every detail of our business has been meticulously thought about, including our packaging. Martha really wanted the unboxing of our jewellery to feel as special as the pieces stored inside, whilst remaining as environmentally conscious as possible.
Each of our Northumbrian seashell collection comes with a specially designed card stating which beach the shell was found, featuring a map of the North East coastline and a little blurb describing the process of how they're made and why they are so special.
Our boxes are FSC Mix packaging, meaning they are made from a combination of materials, including at least 70%Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood fiber, recycled materials, and/orFSC controlled wood. This label ensures that while not 100% certified, all raw materials are responsibly sourced, reducing reliance on unsustainable forestry practices.
Each box comes with anti tarnishing properties in the liners, so it's worth keeping them to store your pieces in when you aren't wearing them.
Every detail represents our business, our postal boxes are embellished with our wave logo, enclosed in a plain white postal bag for those secret deliveries/gifts!
Our crisp high quality tissue paper is fully recyclable, manufactured from 30% recycled material and 70% acid-free virgin pulp and printed with our logo in eco friendly ink (soy based).
Introducing our founder & designer
Martha grew up on the coast of Northumberland, surfing, kayaking, sea swimming and beach combing with her family. It was at an early age she found her love of nature and the ocean which is now her main inspiration as a designer.
"I always knew I wanted to make jewellery from a young age. Salt & Co. was my childhood dream I have somehow managed to make into a reality. I used to play shops as a child and sell little seashells I had found for plastic money and I think a lot of my ideas in the business do root back to that.
The shop was the 'dream come true' moment for me. I still walk into work everyday and have to pinch myself."
COLLECTIONS
THE CINDERELLA COLLECTION
The cinderella collection is a collection of special individual rings with designs lead by unique gemstones. Each ring is made to a random size, creating your very own cinderella moment, but instead of 'if the shoe fits' its 'if the ring fits'.
(The sweetie rings are a diffusion line of our cinderella rings, simply meaning they have a smaller stone than our classic Cinderella rings)
THE NORTHUMBRIAN SHELLS COLLECTION
Each one of our Northumbrian shells was hand selected between pebbles and sand on a beach in Northumberland before being taken back to Martha's home studio, cast into 925 sterling silver and polished to a high shine to become a piece of jewellery to treasure forever.
Each Northumbrian shell comes packaged in our luxury packaging and includes a little card explaining its special journey.
